The Liberian National Police (LNP) and the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing professional competence and capacity building within Liberia’s security sector.
The agreement was formalized recently, with LNP Inspector General Gregory Coleman signing on behalf of the police, and AMEU President, Reverend Dr. Alvin Attah, representing the university.
Under the MoU, AMEU—through its Department of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science—will provide academic and professional training courses to LNP personnel. In return, the LNP has committed to offering internship placements and potential employment opportunities to students from the department.
President Attah hailed the partnership as a milestone in fostering collaboration between academic institutions and national law enforcement agencies.
“As we strive to build and consolidate a culture of academic excellence and professional development at AMEU, we consider moments like this as significant steps toward achieving that goal,” Dr. Attah said.
Inspector General Coleman praised AMEU for initiating the partnership and described the MoU as mutually beneficial.
“This agreement represents a win-win for both institutions. It aligns with our broader vision of strengthening capacity within the LNP,” he said.
“We will continue to move forward and explore every opportunity to advance the professional development of our officers,” Coleman added.
The agreement signals a growing recognition of the role that academic collaboration can play in strengthening law enforcement institutions and promoting sustainable development.
