The Feminist Coalition, through the Liberia Feminist Forum has concluded a three-day Training of Trainers workshop designed to expand feminist advocacy and leadership across Liberia. Held November 10–12 at the Liberia Learning Center in Paynesville, the programme brought together 25 participants from the Feminist Coalition and other women’s rights organisations nationwide.
The workshop built on an initial women’s rights training held in April under the theme “Promoting Women’s Rights in Liberia,” and aimed to equip participants to act as trainers and multipliers of feminist knowledge in their communities and organisations.
Facilitated by transitional justice specialist and women’s rights advocate Madam Tennen Darlieh Tehoungue, sessions focused on feminist political education, leadership, organisation and mobilisation. Participants practised facilitation techniques, honed practical advocacy skills and developed strategies for sustaining movement-building efforts at local and national levels.
Tehoungue praised attendees for their commitment, saying that “equipping women with feminist analysis and leadership skills is vital to transforming Liberia’s socio-political landscape.” She also cautioned trainers to handle storytelling in movement-building with care, warning that narratives can unintentionally amplify injustices if not thoughtfully framed.
Decontee Julu, representing the Liberia Feminist Forum, highlighted the continued partnership with the Stronger Together Project, funded by Medica Mondiale and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). She described the follow-up TOT as evidence of the Forum’s commitment to deepening feminist knowledge and expanding women’s rights advocacy across the country.
Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share experiences and acquire practical tools, with many pledging to replicate the training within their networks to ensure feminist principles shape Liberia’s development agenda. The LFF and Feminist Coalition said they will continue to prioritise collective action and transformative leadership as pathways to gender equality and justice in Liberia.
