Opposition leader Alexander B. Cummings, political head of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), has confirmed holding a closed-door meeting with the United States Charge d’Affaires, Ambassador Joseph Zadrozny, at the American envoy’s residence near Monrovia.
The meeting, described by Cummings as “rewarding and fruitful,” comes at a time when Liberia’s political climate continues to draw international attention. While details of the discussions were not disclosed, Cummings emphasized that the engagement reflected shared concerns about Liberia’s governance and future.
“I was pleased to honor the invitation of the United States Charge d’Affaires, Ambassador Joseph Zadrozny, for a breakfast meeting at his residence,” Cummings said in a statement. “I was accompanied by our National Chairman, Cllr. Orishall Gould, and our National Vice Chair for Legal Affairs, Cllr. Moriah K.D. Yeakula-Korkpor, who also served as my former Chief of Staff. We discussed a range of issues concerning our country as we look forward to remaining engaged. Liberia First.”
The ANC leader, who has positioned himself as a reform-driven alternative in Liberia’s political landscape, has frequently called for stronger governance, accountability, and economic transformation. His meeting with the U.S. envoy underscores the importance of Liberia’s relationship with international partners, particularly the United States, which remains a key ally in supporting democratic institutions and stability in the country.
Diplomatic observers note that such engagements often signal Washington’s continued interest in Liberia’s political trajectory, especially as opposition figures seek to strengthen ties with foreign partners ahead of future electoral contests. While the specifics of the dialogue remain undisclosed, the emphasis on national issues suggests that governance, economic reform, and democratic consolidation were central to the exchange.
Cummings’ statement, though brief, reflects his ongoing effort to project statesmanship and readiness to engage with both domestic and international stakeholders. His closing remark, “Liberia First,” reinforces his party’s messaging around prioritizing national interest above partisan divides.
The ANC leader’s meeting with Ambassador Zadrozny adds to a series of diplomatic interactions between Liberian political actors and foreign missions, highlighting the role of international diplomacy in shaping Liberia’s democratic journey.
