The non-profit organization VAN Community Outreach (VANCO) has delivered a significant boost to healthcare services in southeastern Liberia, donating more than $10,000 worth of medical and non-medical supplies to the Government Rally Time Hospital in Grand Cess.
During a formal handover ceremony, VANCO’s Chief Executive Director, Ms. Veronica Nimspon, presented seventy-nine boxes of equipment and materials, including blood pressure machines, oximeters, glucometers, gloves, and detergents. The consignment, she explained, covered not only the purchase but also the storage and shipment costs, which were borne by the organization’s partners abroad.
“This initiative aims to support and enhance the quality of healthcare services in rural Liberia,” Ms. Nimspon said. She emphasized that Rally Time Hospital is currently the only facility in rural Liberia receiving essential medical supplies through VANCO’s programs. She urged hospital administrators to identify priority areas of need to ensure effective interventions and cautioned that the donated items must be used strictly for their intended purpose — delivering basic health services to the people of Grand Kru.
A native of Grand Kru now based in the United States, Ms. Nimspon described the donation as part of her ongoing commitment to give back to her country. “It is always inspiring to contribute to improving institutional services in Liberia,” she noted.
Beyond healthcare, VANCO has launched several educational initiatives across Liberia. The organization has established a library in River Gee County and computer laboratories in Bomi, Grand Kru, and Lofa Counties. According to Ms. Nimspon, forty-one schools are currently benefiting from VANCO’s library program, reaching nearly 12,000 students. She also announced plans to establish a computer laboratory with active internet services for the Grand Cess community, further expanding access to digital learning.
Ms. Nimspon appealed to national and international organizations, as well as individual Liberians, to support VANCO’s work through material and financial contributions. “Our goal is to uplift underserved communities and strengthen institutions that directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens,” she said.
Receiving the donation on behalf of Rally Time Hospital, Assistant Nursing Director Thomas Jugeh expressed gratitude to VANCO and its leadership. He said the supplies would significantly improve patient care in Grand Kru County. Jugeh also called on other well-meaning citizens and organizations to emulate VANCO’s example, while affirming the government’s commitment to improving services at public healthcare facilities nationwide.
The donation underscores the growing role of diaspora-led initiatives in bridging resource gaps in Liberia’s healthcare and education sectors. For communities in Grand Kru, where access to medical services remains limited, VANCO’s intervention offers both immediate relief and a model of sustained community support.
