Liberia: Vocational School In Monrovia Produces 512 Women, Representing 59.35% Of Graduates

Gonet Academy has graduated 863 professionals from Liberia’s 15 counties, with women making up the majority of this year’s graduating class, highlighting the institution’s commitment to education and workforce development.

According to the academy, 512 women, representing 59.35 percent of the graduates, completed programs in Foundational Certificates, Comprehensive Diplomas, and Professional Diplomas.

Male graduates totaled 351, representing 40.65 percent.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Gbeme Horace-Kollie praised Gonet Academy for its continued investment in human capacity development and described the institution as an important partner in expanding educational opportunities.

The Minister said educating and empowering women contributes to stronger families, communities, and national development.

She noted that the academy’s work is helping to produce skilled professionals while promoting equal opportunities.

She also encouraged the graduates to view their achievements as the beginning of greater responsibilities in leadership, professional excellence, public service, and national development.

During the ceremony, the Minister asked the male graduates to stand while the female graduates remained seated as a symbolic recognition of the resilience and determination women have shown in overcoming challenges to pursue education.

Gonet Academy Chief Empowerment Officer Mohammed Kerkulah said the institution remains committed to equipping Liberians with practical knowledge and professional skills needed to support the country’s social and economic growth.

Kerkulah praised the academy’s management and staff for maintaining quality education and ensuring students receive practical training that prepares them for the job market.

He said Gonet Academy will continue expanding access to professional education and creating opportunities that help develop a skilled workforce across Liberia.

The graduation ceremony highlighted the increasing participation of women in higher and professional education.

Guests at the event said the academy’s achievements demonstrate the importance of investing in education to strengthen communities, promote women’s empowerment, and support Liberia’s long-term development.
