President  Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has visited the Virginia office of the Liberia International Ship and Corporate Registry (LISCR), where he received a comprehensive briefing on the progress, performance, and continued expansion of the Liberian Shipping Registry.
Upon arrival, President Boakai was received by senior officials of the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), including Deputy Commissioner for Finance Emmanuel Nuku Reeves; Deputy Commissioner for Operations, Cllr. Margarete Ansumana; Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Ambassador Robert Wilmot Kpadeh; and Deputy Commissioner for Vessel Registration, Yvonne Clinton.
During the visit, the President was briefed by the Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Liberia Maritime Authority, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe, Sr., on the Registry’s impressive growth, operational performance, and strategic role in strengthening Liberia’s position in the global maritime industry.
President Boakai was informed that the Liberian Shipping Registry remains the world’s largest ship registry, surpassing major competitors, including Panama and The Bahamas. The briefing highlighted the Registry’s continued success in attracting vessels from across the world, reflecting Liberia’s longstanding commitment to maritime excellence, operational efficiency, and international standards.
Commissioner Lighe expressed profound appreciation to President Boakai for making time in his busy schedule to visit the Registry’s Virginia office. He noted that President Boakai is the first sitting Liberian President to visit the office, describing the historic visit as a powerful demonstration of the President’s personal commitment to, and strong emphasis on, Liberia’s maritime program.
Commissioner Lighe’s remarks underscored the significance of the visit, which he said reflects the importance the Boakai administration attaches to the continued growth, development, and global competitiveness of Liberia’s maritime sector.
The visit also provided the President an opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the Registry’s achievements and ongoing efforts to expand its global presence, enhance service delivery, and sustain Liberia’s leadership in international shipping.
President Boakai was accompanied on the visit by Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh; National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods; and Minister of State Without Portfolio Mamaka Bility.
The President’s visit underscores his administration’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s maritime sector as a major pillar of national revenue, international engagement, and economic development. The Liberian Registry remains a vital national asset, contributing to the country’s global standing and demonstrating Liberia’s capacity to compete successfully in one of the world’s most demanding industries.
