Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti recently met with the Prime Minister of Qatar, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Thani, to discuss strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, Minister Nyanti emphasized that Liberia has never directly benefited from aid from Qatar and urged the need to push ahead with plans like the air service agreement for Qatar Airways. She also urged the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) to visit Liberia soon to start supporting local projects.

Nyanti also shared that President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s ARREST agenda is not just about helping the most vulnerable, but also finding ways for friendly nations to partner with Liberia in this effort.

She highlighted the need to explore investment opportunities between the countries, particularly in areas like mining, education, transport, agriculture, infrastructure, health, and technology.

After meeting with the Prime Minister, Nyanti sat down with Qatar’s Minister of Transport, Jassin bin Saif Al Sulaitin, to discuss improving air and sea transport to help Liberia’s private sector grow.

She also asked for Qatar Airways to join the QFFD mission when they visit Liberia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the coming weeks.

Both meetings covered potential investments in various industries, and Nyanti encouraged her Qatari counterparts to invest in Liberia, particularly in manufacturing, aviation, forestry, and road development. She also pushed for public-private partnerships that could strengthen ties in Liberia and benefit the wider region.

Nyanti’s visit to Qatar also included a keynote speech on “Education in Peril: The Human Cost of War,” where she shared her expertise on the impact of conflict on schools and children. This visit is part of Liberia’s efforts to strengthen its ties with friendly nations and attract investment and support for its development agenda.
