Liberia: Richard Koon Declares Himself ‘Regime Speaker ‘ Revealing Ruling UP Does Not Want Opposition House Member in the Role

Must read

The illegitimate Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagba Koon, has claimed that the ruling Unity Party government toppled Speaker Fonati Koffa and installed him as head of the Legislature because the ruling establishment does not want an opposition member of the House to be Speaker.

Addressing his Montserrado County District 11 constituents, Koon declared himself “the regime Speaker.”

He defines “regime Speaker” as someone who supports the President 100%. He also revealed that it is the established policy of the Unity Party not to have an opposition House member as Speaker.

The “regime Speaker” revelation invalidates the so-called majority bloc resolution that aimed to remove Koffa based on alleged corruption.

The Supreme Court has held that Speaker Koffa was illegally removed and recognizes his legitimacy as Head of the Legislature.

Koon speaking:
“My role as a lawmaker is no longer tied to District 11. You will now see me in all the various counties trying to push my President’s agenda.
“That is why we said that an opposition Speaker will not push our agenda. We need to have our own Speaker. So, today I’m the regime Speaker. The Speaker of the Republic is 100% supporting His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai. No Speaker from the opposition will govern us.
“The ARREST Agenda was suppressed by the opposition Speaker. All the things we planned to do vanished. All the President’s plans for the first ten months are now being resurrected, and you will now hear all the bills.
“We will never sit here for an opposition member to be a Speaker of the ruling party. It will never be.”
