President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has appointed Anthony Myers as acting Minister of Finance and Development Planning, charging him with the responsibility of driving growth and prosperity, the presidency said in a statement Frida.
Myers was promoted from deputy finance minister, and comes after the resignation of Boima Kamara from the position. Boakai named Kamara to the post soon after his inauguration as president in January. Statement did not say why Kamara resigned
He’s expected to work in his new role to ensure the stability of the economy and strive to put Liberia on a sustained path of growth, development, and prosperity, according to the Executive Mansion.
“President Boakai calls on the Acting Minister to continue to demonstrate diligence, commitment, integrity, professionalism, and loyalty in service to country.”
The shift in the ministry’s leadership comes as Liberia negotiates fresh country program with the International Monetary Fund.
Authorities are in talks with the Fund to revive an economy still struggling to recover from back-to-back Health pandemic, graft and souring food prices.
“The mission will involve a series of structured meetings with Liberia’s financial and government institutions, donor agencies and international partners. The goal is to set the policy agenda, review fiscal performance, and discussed structural reforms needed to support Liberia’s economic stability,” the Fund said in a June 24 statement on its website.
