Liberia: Ruling Party’s Samuel Kogar Wins Nimba Senate Vote to Replace Warlord Uncle

Ruling Unity Party Alliance candidate Samuel Kogar was won the April 22 Nimba County Senate by election to occupy the Senate seat left vacant by his uncle, the late Senator Prince Johnson, according to final results from the National Elections Commission.

With results reported from all 736 polling stations Kogar garnered 62,126 valid votes, representing approximately 52,08% of the total votes counted.

His main rival, independent candidate Edith Gongloe-Weh collected 40,506 of valid vote cast amounting to 33.95%

The total of 122, 315 votes were cast in a county that has around 307,000 registered voters. Turnout has been reported as low, raising questions about voter engagement in this critical election. Observers have declared the polls as peaceful
