On the somber day, of Saturday June 8, 2024, Liberia remembers the 12th anniversary of the passing of legendary journalist Tom Kamara. Kamara, who succumbed to a brief illness on June 8, 2012, left an indelible mark on Liberian and African journalism.
The World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5th, provides us with a unique opportunity to reflect on the vital importance of our natural environment, to recognise the profound impact our actions have on it, and to renew our commitment to preserving the planet for future generations.
Senator Nyan Twanyen, welcome to the Senate. Your first major argument on the floor is peripheral, lacks depth, and is not grounded in material evidence. You are repeating the usual sentiments that have not helped but kept the rubber sector underdeveloped.
Liberian President Joseph Boakai's latest efforts to stabilize the price of rice, the country's staple food, seem to be missing the mark. His strategy of pleading with India to relax its export taxes and ban on rice shipments is unlikely to provide the long-term solution that Liberians desperately need.
Europe Day, celebrated on 9th May every year, commemorates the foundation of the European Union and symbolises unity and cooperation among European nations. However, for Africa, this occasion serves as a painful reminder of an ugly history marred by exploitation, oppression, and underdevelopment inflicted by European colonial powers.
I read with utter dismay what the LDEA Director General Abraham Kromah considered in his response to my article entitled “ LDEA Director General Abe Kromah Becomes a Major Culprit as Liberia Continues to Lose the Fight Against Illicit Drugs and Substance Abuse”.
Recent allegations by Mohammed Bamba, a former Special Assistant in the office of Jefferson Koijee at the MCC, against Col. Abraham Kromah, the current Director-General of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), have drawn my attention.
The US State Department released its 2023 Annual Human Rights Report on Rights Practices in Liberia focusing on issues of fundamental and inherent human rights violations, malfeasance, unorthodox behaviors of both the CDC led government, opposition Unity Party and other occurrences.
According to the Global Action for Sustainable Development, 2023 situational analysis reports on Drug Abuse in Liberia, “ Liberia is fast becoming a significant transit country for illicit narcotics, the country’s nascent law enforcement capacity, porous border controls, and proximity to major drug transit routes contribute to trafficking to and through Liberia”. The report also indicated that there are 866 ghettos in Monrovia and over 100,000 of the estimated number of substance users.
The exposition found on Comrade Mohammed Bamba’s Facebook page, with its intricate web of deceit surrounding Col. Abe Kromah, has left me not just astonished but utterly flabbergasted. The meticulous orchestration of falsehoods under the guise of a diatribe titled “Why Mr. Jᴏsᴇᴘʜ N. Bᴏᴀᴋᴀɪ’s Dɪʀᴇᴄᴛᴏʀ Gᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ ᴅᴇsɪɢɴᴀᴛᴇ ғᴏʀ ᴛʜᴇ Lɪʙᴇʀɪᴀ Dʀᴜɢ Eɴғᴏʀᴄᴇᴍᴇɴᴛ Aɢᴇɴᴄʏ Aʙʀᴀʜᴀᴍ Kʀᴏᴍᴀʜ ɪs ɴᴏᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ʀɪɢʜᴛ ᴍᴀɴ ᴛᴏ ʟᴇᴀᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄʜᴀʀɢᴇ ᴛᴏ ғɪɢʜᴛ ɪʟʟɪᴄɪᴛ ᴅʀᴜɢ ᴛʀᴀғғɪᴄᴋɪɴɢ ᴀɴᴅ sᴜʙsᴛᴀɴᴄᴇ ᴀʙᴜsᴇ.” showcases a mastery of deception that is both alarming and concerning.
