The Ministry of Justice has suspended the Assistant Director of Prisons for Operations Lawrence Bohlen, after a leaked audio recording raised questions about the handling of food supplies at the Monrovia Central Prison.

Preliminary findings point to discrepancies in a donation of 100 bags of rice (25kg each) provided by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai as a Christmas goodwill gesture. Official records show the full consignment was delivered, but only 75 bags have been accounted for, leaving 25 bags untraceable.

To address the matter, the Ministry has set up a special investigative panel chaired by Independent Parole Board Chairman Stanley Cooper. The panel is tasked with conducting a comprehensive review and is expected to present its findings within two weeks.

The Ministry emphasized its commitment to accountability and pledged that all donations intended for inmates will be properly managed. It added that appropriate administrative and legal measures will follow once the investigation concludes.
